It was the British Prime Minister who during the Second World War, encouraged his troops with the words “Certain I am of this, one has only to endure in order to conquer”. This has been a sentiment we have encouraged among our residents as they begin to fight for their lives and gain victory over their addictions and compulsive behaviours. This has also been a sentiment and principle that we as a ministry have tried to live out, and as seasons change and the battle against addiction becomes all the more difficult in our society, we are beginning to see the fruits of our endurance. We have witnessed people and families lives been healed and restored and have had the privilege of various ex-residents write back and even come back to visit and testify of what has happened in their lives since leaving Healing Wings.

Over the last few months there has been tremendous change and development at Healing Wings, we completed the building of the Youth Centre female- house dormitory and that centre is now up and running with the young ladies thriving as they have a place to call their own. Enlarging our tents, we have also begun work on our new male dormitory in order to be able to accommodate the ever growing need in our country for primary care.

It must also be noted that Healing Wings is blessed to have a hands on board of management who serve us with grace and passion in addition to their full time lives outside of Healing Wings. The hard work of the staff and board members of the Centre has been the reason the Healing Wings continues to be so well received by the Department of Social Development- as recently seen in a Monitoring Meeting held with the department in March.

In terms of our mission and vision to reach the community and make an impact on the lives of those surrounding Healing Wings, our upcoming projects include the rebuilding of our community centre, which was destroyed by a huge storm, and as a result the roof and a supporting wall of the Mphakatsi Centre got destroyed- the centre houses our English literacy and health project, and is the foundation for continuing to build a relationship with the community. In addition, we have developed a schools outreach program focusing on drug awareness and addiction prevention- the program includes a Healing Wings original play production, as well as a Powerpoint and personal testimonies from staff and residents .

Sadly, the last few months has seen us bid farewell to some of our staff members, Annesta Hofer, as well as to the Tinline Family, Terence and Nicolene and their beautiful baby girl, Farah-Logan. We wish you all the very Fourie Familybest and trust that the Lord will bless you wherever He has placed you. Joining the staff component as our new Maths and Science teacher, is Norman Nyoni. We also welcomed Stellenbosch University graduate, Gerstin Roos, into our Social Department as a counsellor as well as senior Social Worker Elmien Erasmus who has come in as our new Social Work Manager. Returning from maternity leave, we also welcome back Jeanine Fourie and her beautiful daughter Oliveah. We look forward to working with all of you.

With all of this in mind we are sure will that 2014 will be another year of the Lord’s favour.
