The August Rush!
What a busy month it has been for both the Healing Wings Adult and Youth Centre with many wonderful and exciting happenings and changes to our staff component!
At the Youth Centre, Healing Wings would like to extend a warm welcome to Shane Meyer who joins us in the HWYC counselling department, as well as Monique Smit, who after serving as a volunteer, now joins the staff component as the Purpose College school co-ordinator.
Sadly though, we must bid farewell to Kylie Wolhuter and Piet Pretorius who, after serving for 3 and 5 years respectively, will leave us in September. We wish them both well in their future endeavours. We also wish to congratulate them on their engagement and wish their future marriage God’s riches blessings. This blessing must also be extended to Graeme Duthie and Suzaan Van Zyl who have also gotten engaged, we fully trust that the Lord will guide your path and your marriage as you walk in His will.
We have also had some exciting visits this month, these include Mathematics Teacher Ian Attridge, who travelled from Johannesburg to present various Mathematics workshops to our high school students. We were also paid a special visit by one of our former patients, who came for the weekend and share his very moving testimony with the community. Over the last few weeks we have also had Cornet Kleynhans stay with us and teach us from her new book, Sword of the Warrior III. For information regarding the book, or to purchase one, you may contact Cornet on cornet.kleynhans@gmail.com.
In other exciting news, Healing Wings in partnership with the Mpumalanga Department of Social Development, will soon be commencing with our uniquely designed Nyaope Programme. Designed to meet the urgent need to curtail the ever-growing Nyaope crisis in the Mpumalanga Province, it will be a twelve week crisis prevention program for those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Our Community Centre is also now up and running and this month saw the reinstatement of Medical Clinic evening which offers help for minor ailments to community members. We also took young Sizwe, one of the community kids who religiously comes to church every week, to the Blue Bulls v Puma’s game at the Mbombela Stadium. Jody van Jaarsveld of course used the opportunity to indoctrinate the innocent teenager into becoming a Blue Bulls supporter.
Returning home, this month will see us commemorating International Overdose Day with a teaching and lecture presented by Graeme Duthie and former Operations Manager will also be presenting on the topic via Skype. We hope that this month we all remember the destruction and devastation that comes with overdose, and we encourage all our readers to make good life choices, free of addictive or compulsive behaviour.
